SILVER SPRING, MD (Feb 20, 2019) – Workplace Fairness celebrated a Milestone 25th Anniversary on February 17th.  

This year is the 25th anniversary of the incorporation of Workplace Fairness.  Workplace Fairness believes that workers should have free access to comprehensive up-to-date information about their rights and that fair treatment of workers is sound public policy and good business practice.

About Workplace Fairness

Workplace Fairness is a nonprofit organization that provides easy to-read up-to-date information, education and assistance to workers - and their advocates nationwide – primarily through its website – and that promotes public policies that advance employee rights. In 2017, the Workplace Fairness website was a Webby Award Honoree, recognizing the site as the web's most comprehensive resource educating workers about their legal rights in the workplace.

Wayne N. Outten, Esq., President of Workplace Fairness, co-founded the organization with Paul Tobias, Esq., in 1994, with some initial seed money from the National Employment Lawyers Association.  Mr. Outten notes, “Over the past 25 years, our means have evolved – from publishing books, pamphlets, and journals to producing a website – but our goals have remained the same: to educate workers (and their advocates) about workplace rights and about resolving workplace problems, and to assure that members of the business community and the public at large view the fair treatment of workers as both sound public policy and good business practice.”

Paula Brantner, Senior Advisor and former Executive Director, has been involved with Workplace Fairness and its website since 2001. She says, "I am thrilled to have been part of educating more than 16 million workers about their rights in the workplace through our comprehensive website and other programs over the years. While the issues have changed over time, it remains fundamental that workers need to know about their legal rights in order to enforce them. When the worst happens at work, Workplace Fairness is there to provide sound, accurate information and access to resources that can help. We also educate journalists, attorneys, business owners, and others interested in workplace topics about the most critical issues facing the American workplace today."

Workplace Fairness works toward its goals by:

  • Making comprehensive information about workers' rights—free of legal jargon—readily available to workers and to advocates and organizations that assist workers;
  • Providing resources to support the work of legal services organizations, community-based organizations, law schools and private attorneys that provide free legal information and services to low-income workers;
  • Presenting the employee perspective in publications, policy debates and public discussion.
