Workplace Fairness Stands With AA/PI Community Against Racism and Gender-Violence
WASHINGTON (March 24, 2020) – On March 16, eight people were killed in Atlanta, Georgia, including six Asian-American/Pacific Islander (AA/PI) women. We have witnessed too many of these senseless and tragic incidents in the United States, a constant reminder of the vulnerability that BIPOC individuals and communities face. News reports cite that racially motivated extremists pose the greatest threat in our country. We must remain resilient and continue to lend our collective voices to advocate for justice and equality.
We have all witnessed a surge in hate crime against AA/PI communities since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Stop AAPI Hate reports that nearly 3,800 instances of discrimination have occurred against Asians in the past year. Workplace Fairness mourns, with their co-workers, friends, family and others, the loss of the victims:
Soon C. Park, age 74
Hyun J. Grant, age 51
Suncha Kim, age 69
Yong A. Yue, age 63
Delaina Ashley Yaun, age 33
Paul Andre Michels, age 54
Xiaojie Tan, age 49
Daoyou Feng, age 44
We stand in solidarity, with our AA/PI brothers and sisters, against systemic racism, xenophobia, gender-based violence and hate crimes.
Every day, Workplace Fairness fights for the fair treatment of workers. We provide information, education and assistance to individual workers and their advocates nationwide and promote public policies that advance employee rights. Covering such topics as discrimination, sexual harassment, disability discrimination and more, we inform policymakers, members of the business community and the public that the fair treatment of workers is both good business practice and sound public policy. We advance our mission through our website that serves as the #1 most comprehensive online resource for free information about workplace rights.
We ask that you join Workplace Fairness in this moment to mourn and to center on the AA/PI community. Let’s take time to consider how we all can be an ally and how we can effect change, individually and collectively, to create a more just and equitable, violence-free society. If you need information related to workplace and workers’ rights, please visit our website. We are here to support workers nationwide and to advocate on your behalf.
