Workplace Fairness Commemorates Important Contributions of Long-Time Board Members
Workplace Fairness is #1 Most Comprehensive Online Resource for Information About Workplace Rights
Dear Journalists, please share these critical workers’ rights resource pages and this information with your readers.
WASHINGTON (July 20, 2021) – Workplace Fairness, a national nonprofit that advocates for workers' rights, continues to provide resource pages for workers about their rights. The members of the WF Board of Directors contribute to this mission in no small way.
Recently Workplace Fairness commemorated the service of two of its Board members -- Walt Auvil and Fred Gittes – with great appreciation for their contributions.
Wayne N. Outten, Chair of the Workplace Fairness Board, had this to say: “Speaking for all past and present members of the Workplace Fairness board: we are enormously grateful to Walt and Fred for their many, many years of dedicated and effective service to Workplace Fairness and its mission - and to American workers. I personally appreciate their abiding friendship, loyalty, and support through the years. Thank you guys!”
Secretary of the Board Walt Auvilof Rusen & Auvil, PLLC in Parkersburg, West Virginia, is a long-time member of the board and supporter of Workplace Fairness. He is the current Managing Attorney of The Employment Law Center, PLLC, since 1989. His practice is focused on representation of employees in employment-related litigation. He was Law Clerk at the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals from 1981 to 1983. Publications include Employment at Will, A State-by-State Survey. Mr. Auvil is also Chair, WV State Bar Employment Law Committee of the West Virginia State Bar.
Auvil had this to say about his time on the Workplace Fairness Board: “Decades ago in another century, the founders of Workplace Fairness had a vision of an organization devoted to educating unrepresented workers about their legal rights. Workplace Fairness has established itself as a reliable free resource for workers to learn about their rights. I have been privileged to be part of that effort for much of that time. I appreciate all the staff, board members, subscribers and donors who have contributed to this worthwhile cause over the years. The effort has never been more important than it is today. Although I am stepping back from my role as a board member as my wife and I make career transitions, I will always remain proud to support Workplace Fairness.” See Walt Auvil - Workplace Fairness (3-minute video) here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XY5amcUxmM
Board Vice President Frederick Gittesof the Gittes Law Group in Columbus, Ohio, has been with Workplace Fairness for 16 years, lending his expertise in both employment law topics and board leadership. He is former president of the National Employment Lawyers Association and the Ohio Association for Justice. He was appointed Chair of the Civil Rights Committee of the Ohio State Bar Association for five years and elected Chairperson of the OSBA's Labor and Employment Law Section. He has been selected by his peers for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America for over twenty years, in areas of practice including Employment Law, First Amendment Law and Communications Law. Fred has been honored in Ohio Super Lawyers for over a decade, including selections as one of the top 100 lawyers in Ohio and top 50 in Columbus.
Gittes says, “My time as an officer and board member of Workplace Fairness has been one of the best and most challenging experiences I have ever had. I am proud to have been associated with an organization dedicated to helping make America’s workplaces more diverse, fairer, healthier and safer. Much of the reason for that has been the remarkable people I have met over the years who donated their time, effort, experience and wisdom to the effort. Our board has reflected our purposes more and more as years passed and new people agreed to join. The Board itself became more diverse in every way -- demographics, personal experience, work, values, skills, ages and I could go on. I cannot recall a single board meeting during which I didn’t learn something new which I marveled at discovering for the first time. Plus, we managed to have fun at our meetings despite the focus on getting the work done and decisions made.” See Fred Gittes - Workplace Fairness (3-minute video) here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBi1fq4KaLo

About Workplace Fairness
Workplace Fairness is a nonprofit organization that provides information, education and assistance to individual workers and their advocates nationwide and promotes public policies that advance employee rights.
The organization’s mission is to educate workers and their advocates about workplace rights and options for resolving workplace problems and that policymakers, members of the business community and the public at large view the fair treatment of workers as both good business practice and sound public policy.
Private Interview Opportunities
Individual interviews with Workplace Fairness staff and members of the Board of Directors can be scheduled to discuss workplace issues for workers and employers.
Workplace Fairness works toward these goals by:
- Making comprehensive information about workers' rights—free of legal jargon—readily available to workers and to advocates and organizations that assist workers;
- Providing resources to support the work of legal services organizations, community-based organizations, law schools and private attorneys that provide free legal information and services to low-income workers;
- Presenting the employee perspective in publications, policy debates and public discussion.
A 2017 Webby Award Honoree, the award-winning Workplace Fairness website has newly updated information throughout the site, as part of the web's most comprehensive resource educating workers about their legal rights in the workplace.
